"Kaipara Makes Most of Shoot"

A touch of the silver screen has arrived in the Kaipara with an episode of the hit television programme Xena: Warrior Princess being filmed in the area.

The two week filming period, for an episode titled Legacy, began on Monday and involves 70 people as extras from the region.

More people are being employed for behind-the-scenes roles, such as drivers, labourers, and helping with catering, while a further 125 staff from Pacific Rennaisance Pictures, the show's makers, are also on site at the secret location.

Their presence in the district would likely pump in more than $100,000 to the regional economy.

At Wednesday's shoot, the show's stars, Kiwi Lucy Lawless as Xena and Reneé O'Connor as Gabrielle worked through their scenes in blustery winds and rain with actors Alison Bruce and Owen Black.
