1 cup butter, salted   2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract   1/2 teaspoon salt
4 large eggs, slightly beaten   1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa (regular or dutch is OK)   1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
8 ounce semi-sweet chocolate bar, coarsely chopped, OR 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

OPTIONAL GLAZE
1/3 cup white chocolate chips or semi-sweet chocolate chips   2 teaspoons oil

Heat oven to 350F.

Grease 13x9 inch pan

In medium saucepan over low heat, melt butter. Add sugar and salt; blend well. Remove from heat. Add vanilla and eggs; blend well. Mix together flour and cocoa. Stir into butter mixture. Fold in chocolate and the nuts if using. Pour into greased pan.

Bake at 350F for 30-40 minutes or until set. Do not overbake. Cool completely. Cut into bars (don't cut yet if you are glazing this).

If you are using the glaze, melt the glaze ingredients in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Drizzle glaze over cooled brownies. Let stand until glaze is set. Cut into bars.

Yields 36 bars.
